If so, you’ll want to give this video a listen, because I’m going to talk about how I’ve used the incredible power of delicious whole plant foods to healthy-up and energize my hustle, and how you can too!
“Do you ever think… “If I just didn’t feel so tired, or I just didn’t feel so crappy, I could get so much more done today?” Does that ring any bells?”
“I’m wellness educator, Stacee Lynn, and I help busy female entrepreneurs healthy-up their hustle by teaching them how to get A LOT more whole plant foods into their body every day – quickly, easily, and deliciously, of course. In this video, I’m going to talk about how you too can healthy-up and energize your hustle using whole plant foods. So first of all, I’m going to talk a little bit about why these foods are so powerful, then I’m going to talk about some of the immediate benefits that you experience when you eat a lot more of these foods, and then I want to talk about why they’re so energizing. I’m going to try and keep this short and sweet!”
“Why are these foods so powerful? You know what it is? It’s that they’re just literally cell to cell, wall to wall, packed with nutrients. Nothing but nutrients and water, and that’s pretty amazing when you think about it because we are so used to accepting the bad with the good when it comes to the foods we eat. And when you eat these types of foods, there’s just nothing but goodness, which is pretty amazing!”
“So what’s in these foods? Well, they have their macronutrients… protein, and fat, and carbohydrates, and there are the micronutrients which are the vitamins and minerals. Then you have antioxidants all over the place, and you also get the phytochemicals, also known as phytonutrients, and those protect the plants when they’re out in the elements – and they also protect us once they’re inside our bodies. So when you put all that in your body, the synergistic effect is … well, it’s powerful. There’s just no other word for it!”
“So that’s WHY whole plant foods are so incredibly healthful. As far as some of the immediate benefits that people experience once they significantly increase the number of whole plant foods that they’re eating every day…
The first big one is more energy! You’ll typically experience a very noticeable increase in your energy, which is really important, right? When you’re an entrepreneur, you need all the energy you can get, so that’s a big deal! I remember when I first started eating a lot more whole plant foods, that was the first thing I noticed, and strangely, it surprised me. I began eating these foods because I knew it was better for my long-term health, and they were delicious, but I really didn’t think about the immediate benefits, which I know sounds really silly, but I didn’t. So it was a really nice surprise when I started feeling a lot more energetic all of a sudden!”
“And then, of course, improved digestion is another one! You start putting all of that fiber in your body and it does amazing things for one’s digestion, and that’s important.”
“Improved sleep quality is something that a lot of people talk about. I know I personally experienced that as well.”
“And in not such a long period of time after eating more of these foods, you start to look better – it starts to show! Your skin starts to look nicer, and your hair – and a lot of times people lose weight, especially if they’re replacing a lot of high-fat foods – highly refined foods and some of the animal products, with these healthier choices. Most whole plant foods are naturally very low fat, so ideally you don’t want to load them up with fattening oils and cremes and those sorts of things.”
“So those are some of the immediate benefits that you experience! Now there’s a long, long list of long-term health benefits too, and I’ll cover those in future videos.”
“So let’s talk about WHAT makes these foods so energizing. Right? Well, basically you have the carbohydrates to thank for that! Carbohydrates are our body’s preferred fuel source as it can easily break them down into glucose, which our body then uses for energy. Granted, our body can break down fat and protein for energy also, it just can’t do it as efficiently, it’s more difficult. That’s why we crave carbohydrates when we need energy.”Carbohydrates are our body's preferred fuel source as it can easily break them down into glucose, which our body then uses for energy.Click To Tweet
“Now, don’t freak out about the carbohydrates. I know people tend to, and I get it – it’s confusing. But let me try to explain it a little bit here….
“So there are really two different ‘types’ of carbohydrates – there are ‘refined’ carbohydrates and there are ‘unrefined’ carbohydrates – I like to call them ‘refined carbs’ and ‘unrefined carbohydrates’. I talk about them as two different things because they really are. They act very differently in our bodies and they’re constructed very differently.”
“‘Refined’ carbs started out as unrefined carbohydrates, but then they went through so much processing that it stripped most of the nutrients right out of them, and most (if not all) of the fiber, which is a big deal. So they’re kind of just … well crap, for the most part. I mean, there’s just not a lot of goodness in those refined carbs. Plus, once we put them in our bodies, they do bad things. They basically digest so quickly (due to lack of fiber) that they increase the amount of sugar (glucose) in our blood way beyond what our body can use all at once, which sets off a whole string of undesirable events – that has a lot to do with why refined carbs make us overweight and sick, and why we should stay away from them as much as possible.
“Now, ‘unrefined’ carbohydrates are a whole different story… these are what you find in the ‘whole’ plant foods. They’re packaged with all their nutrients, including fiber, and when you put those in your body, it’s like this nice little slow burn. They digest gradually, so the glucose enters your bloodstream much more slowly and consistently – it’s kind of like a beautiful, slow-burning candle flame that burns evenly for hours – that’s how ‘unrefined’ carbohydrates work in our body. So they’re nothing to be afraid of.”
“I encourage you to try to get a lot more whole plant foods into your diet every day, a variety if possible. I’m talking about vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes (like beans, peas, and lentils), and also nuts and seeds. Just a little bit with the nuts and seeds – maybe a handful a day – you don’t want to get too carried away with those, but they are incredibly healthy, so you definitely want to include them if you can.”
” If you make some of these changes, I know that you’re going to feel better – I know that you’ll have more energy. And it’s going to benefit your health down the road as well. It’s so important to make diet and lifestyle choices that not only benefit you right now, but will do so in the long run also.”
“So, I wanted to share a link with you – it’s called NutritionFacts.org – I highly recommend checking it out! It’s a (not-for-profit) science-based nutrition website, it’s super interesting, and just really helpful when you’re trying to figure out a lot of this stuff around nutrition. Plus, Dr. Greger (the genius behind the whole darn thing) has an enjoyable sharp wit that often shows up in his writing, and always does in his live streams. I’m a bit of a fan, can you tell?”
