Can I just say that I’m in love with my salad greens keeper /crisper / thing-a-ma-jig. Yep, the very one shown in the photo below. I’m one of those people that hates to throw out (what was) perfectly good food because I didn’t eat it in time. I don’t like being wasteful, and it can happen so easily when you eat fresh fruits and veggies every day. To save myself time and effort, I usually buy those pre-cut tubs of salad greens – I typically search for one that has an expiration date as far out as possible so I can increase the length of time I have to mess up and let some go to waste. But… my new system seems to be working fabulously…
I now bring home my big tub of salad greens, fill up my salad spinner, rinse that stuff off, spin the mess out of it, (repeat) and pack it fairly snug into my awesome little crisper – it can actually hold quite a bit. My greens are definitely staying fresh far longer than they used to. I don’t know… something about the fresh water rinse and the way the crisper works just perks them right up I guess.
In order to make it really easy for me to get my salads in during the week, I usually pre-wash enough greens for 4 or 5 salads, as well as cut up all the goodies I want in there and store them in individual food containers. Then I whip up enough dressing for all of that, and I’m good to go. I just have to pull all the pieces of the puzzle out of the fridge, and in 5 minutes I’ve got what I call a ‘big’ salad (remember that from Seinfeld) that includes just about everything but the kitchen sink. Super easy, super fast, super healthy. Love, love, LOVE that!
So my friend, if you don’t have a good salad crisper, be sure to get yo’ self one – it’ll end up saving you money in the long run, and if you’re like me, probably a few curse words. In case you’re interested, the one I have is called the 4 Qt. Prepworks by Progressive and it’s collapsible – available here on Amazon. Drop me a note in the comment section below if you have crisper that you think is the bees knees, I’d love to know about it!
